By default, when you open File Explorer in Windows 10, it takes you straight to Quick Access—a view that shows your recently used files and folders. Handy for some, but if you prefer seeing your drives and main folders right away, you might want it to open in This PC instead.
Good news—you can change this in just a few clicks. Here’s how:
🛠️ Step-by-Step: Set “This PC” as the Default View
- Open File Explorer
You can do this by clicking the folder icon on your taskbar or pressingWindows + E
on your keyboard. - Click on the “View” Tab
At the top of the File Explorer window, you’ll see the ribbon. Click on the View tab to open more options. - Select “Options” on the Right
On the far-right side of the ribbon, click Options. This opens the Folder Options window. - Change the Default View
In the General tab (which should open by default), look for “Open File Explorer to:”
Click the dropdown menu and change it from Quick Access to This PC. - Apply and Close
Click Apply, then OK to save your changes.
✅ All Set!
From now on, every time you open File Explorer, it will go straight to This PC, showing your drives and system folders—just the way you want it.
